France, 2004

Research Studios was asked to design a book of the architecture submissions for the paris olympic landmark competition.

The book is called "454 PROJETS POUR PARIS 2012 / 454 PROJECTS FOR PARIS" and features the 454 submissions for the competition, it has a section on the winner and highlights of the 50 commended entries. Research studios created the graphic look and system that runs throughout the book. The book was presented to the olympic commitee along with the other candidates, London, Madrid, NY and Moscow.

Info about the competition:

The "Batignolles site" is one of the last fallow industrial sites in Paris: on 9 December 2003, it was chosen it as the site for the Olympic Village. This site is currently occupied by railway freight and logistics activities. On 1 January 2005, the City of Paris will begin construction of a 5.5-hectare garden on this site.

PARIS 2012 proposes that the Olympic Landmark be set up there, as dramatic temporary structure - a real beacon within the City - along with a temporary exhibition about Paris' bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The priority is to take over the site, assert its identity and reveal its urban potential through a visual marker, a strong signal within Paris, at the centre of Paris 2012's proposed set-up.

The Olympic Landmark's objective will be to inform the general public about Paris' bid, and in particular to rally local support for the project.
