RS Art Direction: 1996-2001

Salomon, the traditional French ski manufacturer, approached us in 1996 to develop a visual design system for a new line of snowboards they were manufacturing.

After we carried out the initial work for their snowboard logo and product design, Salomon decided to use this logo for their new corporate mark, and to carry out an overhaul of the whole brand.

This started a process where RS art-directed Salomon’s total identity, producing visual language systems for their inline skates division, skis, snowblades, footwear, apparel and gear as well as for the core company. The focus has been on the principle of 'pure product': establishing a reductive process by which less is more, wherein the object itself holds more meaning than the image printed on it.

The philosophy is one of dynamic consistency and continuity, extending the brand into a living form that evolves and specializes while continually building the central brand message.
